What forty years of gearboxes actually buys you
Anyone can say they are experienced. Here is what it means in practice at Antigua Street, and what you can expect if you bring a vehicle or a gearbox to us.
The advice comes first
You get the repair price, the exchange price and the used price together, with a straight opinion on which we would pick. Nobody starts work on a guess and nothing begins without your say-so.
The shelf is the service
An ever expanding range of new and reconditioned gearboxes in stock, for most vehicle types. It is what turns a multi-week rebuild into a swap you get back this week.
It is all we do
Gearboxes are the entire business, not a bay at the back of a general workshop. That is why other workshops send us the jobs they would rather not take on.
The guarantee
Every reconditioned exchange gearbox we supply carries our standard 12 month or 20,000km guarantee, whichever comes first. That applies whether we fit it or your own workshop does, and it covers the complete unit rather than the one part that was replaced.
Used units are a different product and are covered differently. We will tell you exactly what applies before you buy, not after.
Courtesy vehicles
Gearbox work is not a wait-in-reception job. Courtesy vehicles are available so that having the work done properly does not mean organising lifts for a week. Ask when you book, because they do get spoken for.
Insurance and extended warranty work
We are approved repairers for extended mechanical warranty insurance providers. If your vehicle is covered by a mechanical breakdown or extended warranty policy, we can work within it. Bring the policy details when you come in and we will deal with the insurer directly where the policy allows.
Racing is where the hard lessons came from
This business has built gearboxes for racing applications for over forty years, on cars it sponsored and campaigned itself, some of them making 1500hp. Very little of that shows up on an invoice for a family car, but it is the reason we recognise an unusual failure quickly and know which components are genuinely marginal rather than merely worn.
We will not learn on your car. We have already paid for the education. More on the performance work.
Trade and public, treated the same
We deal directly with the motoring public and with trade operators throughout the South Island, and the advice does not change depending on which one you are. Workshops get trade supply and support; private customers get the same person on the phone.
Parts for every budget
A large stock of new and used parts means we can usually offer more than one way to fix something. That flexibility is the difference between a repair being possible and a vehicle being written off over a gearbox.
